A Friendly Business by Matsushita

We must be familiar with these two brands called “National” and “Panasonic” but probably not much from us which have ever heard who is “the big guy” behind those famous brands. Konosuke Matsushita was the founder of electronic industry called National and Panasonic. He had finished the construction of his own factory and office twelve years after he had pioneered them with worked very hard: 18 hours daily and 7 days a week. In 1929 there was “global economic depression” which caused value of share decline sharply. Market demand and purchasing power decreased drastic. Many small and big companies either became bankrupt. General Motor which was known as the biggest electronic company that moment perforce dismiss 92.829 of its total employees. Millions of people became jobless and starvation. In the middle of that suffering condition, Matsushita has made a right decision. He didn’t want to increase the number of unemployment. He didn’t dismiss his employees like the others did for much efficiency in order to save the company. At that moment he just commanded to reduce a half of his factory production but didn’t dismiss any employees at all. Because of his benefaction, lots of people didn’t become jobless and still could defray their own families. It was a controversial and wise breakthrough in that depression period. Matsushita’s beneficence brought a great result for himself in the next 16 years. He could pluck his kindness from the employees who he had ever been helped. At the end of Second World War, General Douglas McArthur who took charge in Japan arrested all of Japan’s industrialists, include Matsushita to be judged because of their involvement in producing weapons and other military logistics during the war. There were about 15000 employees and their families put their signatures in a petition plea for Matsushita. General McArthur was agazed with that petition and released Matsushita finally. There was no one of Japan’s industrialists who had permitted by McArthur to go home except Matsushita. Therefore Matsushita could continue to lead his company became an electronic master. He retired in 1989 at his 94 years old. Matsushita is true properly referred as a Maestro because of his hard work in enlarging National Panasonic with full of beneficence.
